Katey Ann's Dive into the Text
In chapter 12, page 369 there is text that describes the Louisiana Purchase. It is under the heading "A Divisive, 1844-1850", the subheading "'Free Soil' in Politics", and the sub-subheading "Slavery in the Mexican Cession". It is in the photo of the United States at the bottom of the page in the picture description and map. In the picture, the Gadsden Purchase section of the map is very small, and simply gives an overview of its meaning and location. The Gadsden Purchase is a part of the larger subject of Mexican land that is sold to the north in purchases and treaties. Some new and relevant information about this topic is that it was actually a railroad only from Texas to California that the Gadsden Purchase was created for, not across the United States. Click this to find the book where this information was found.

Today's work was to give us more information from a good source, like a textbook, for our poster topics. Textbooks are normally more reliable than websites, and it is good to know how to use them. It is also important to know how to list where things are located so that you can describe it to others, and give the author credit with things like headings and subheadings. It is also important to know how to read things such as images, captions, glossaries, and indexes because all of these things will help you find and understand things better in the future.
